Favorite WOD: My favorite girl is Grace but my favorite WODs are long chipper! Sounds miserable right? ha. Least Favorite WOD: anything with pull-ups!
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I was a swimmer growing up but Fitness drove my college years. I took classes in Exercise Science every semester but never committed to it being my major. So, I have a minor in Health and a minor in Fitness from TCU. With that, I got my personal trainer certification from Cooper Athletic Center and did that as well as group fitness throughout college to earn money and it fulfilled a need in me to be around people and to help people get better. Personally, I was training to run long distances at the time and finished every race from a 5K to a marathon in college. One day, about a year and a half after graduating college, while I was in San Diego doing my masters, I woke up and didn't want to run. at. all. I was burned out. My neighbor had been going to a gym called Performance 360 that was similar-ish to Crossfit in that they believed in variable training, group classes, and olympic lifting but no gymnastics. I fell in love with the community driven classes. That was just over three years ago and I've never looked back! How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD…what was it and how did it feel? I will go ahead and tell you about my first class at CFB because it's worth sharing. First you need to know that my San Diego gym community was a bunch of 23-35 year olds with minimal responsibility in that few had kids, most were transplants to SD so no family in town, and we all lived by the beach to be at the beach and make rent and enjoy life in every way possible. There were exceptions and we all worked hard but my point is this. I walked into CFB feeling pretty on top of my game. Then a mom of three out lifted me and a dad with girls in college ran past me! EKK! I had some humble pie and got to work. It made me realize that working out is a choice and this community was going to help me make this a lifestyle even as jobs, marriage, and others things came into my life. What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I have more energy and I am in better shape than I have ever been. No doubt in my mind.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? We have so little control over most of our life. I know we hate to admit this but it's true. The beauty about weights is that 45# is always 45#, some days it's light and some days it's heavy, but it's always 45#. When life is a mess and nothings going right, I can walk in and know that this is my time and my place and it is reliable and it is constant. That is a beautiful thing. Please share with us any favorite CrossFit/CrossFit Brownwood memory? My favorite memories are from doing the league events! Sign up for them if you can, you won't regret it!
